Andromeda (Sci-Fi RP)
Andromeda (Sci-Fi RP)
Alright!!!! Huge WIP here, but Andromeda is to be our Sci-Fi themed RP. I am very excited about this and really hope to see it grow. I asked Tori and Emma questions as to what we should do within our Sci-Fi Universe and here are some of the answers:
Just a solar system or will the world span a galaxy?
Galaxy
Earth or no Earth?
No Earth. So with that we originally decided that Earth would have been lost long ago. I think since I plan to call the galaxy Andromeda (which is a real Galaxy) that maybe the humans here came from the Milky Way a loooong time ago via an exploration vessel that drifted to Andromeda and landed on a planet. From there they colonized and grew into what they are at the time of the RP.
Only Humans or Aliens too?
Aliens too!
A few Alien Species or Several?
Several!
JRPG style or western?
JRPG!!
Magic or NO Magic?
Magic. I actually answered this one, but with that said (and this is subject to change) I was thinking of using like Psionic Energy. Essentially psychic abilities. Powers will manifest in this manner like StarCraft or 40k. This will be rare, much like the force and how only certain people can truly become psychics.
Again, major WIP, but I love what we have so far and I love Sci-Fi so any ideas are welcome.

More on Andromeda
General: Andromeda is a Galaxy filled with intrigue. Alien races all vying for power and humanity barely establishing itself among the stars. With the recent rise of the Triumvirate and its quest to bring order and structure to all of Andromeda the Galaxy has been thrown into political upheaval. Several factions resist the Triumvirate and a few have even banded together, but with the might of the Brox few can stand against them.
Races: There are many races living within Andromeda. Here are a few.
Triumvirate Races: Polis, Khopesh and Brox.
Polis - The Polis are Andromeda's humans, but don't say that to them. The Polisians are a very proud race with traditions and families dating back to long before the discovery of FTL travel. They live in a system with seven habitable planets, each governed by a separate house. After several quarrels between houses a unified government was finally established. The Polis Council has seven seats (one for each house head) and they vote once a year on which house head will be moderator. The Moderator is considered the figure head of all the Polis and acts as a member of the Triumvirate.
Most Polis refer to themselves by their house name rather than calling themselves Polisians or Polis. Physiologically Polisians are identical to humans, but live slightly longer and have light to dark blue (even purple in one houses case). Polis grow no facial hair, but they do grow hair that is often a shade similar to their skin tones. Some Polis will develop white hair and it is popular for them to dye their hair other colors. The Polis are a mostly secular people, having moved beyond their 'ancient' pagan religion. Some still worship the "old gods," but most are non-religious.
Khopesh - Psychics. Have no mouths. Have a Pharoah. Believe in divine sovereignty. The The Khopesh are considered the oldest galactic power in Andromeda. Their culture is thick with tradition and customs that predate the modern galactic calendar. They are a monotheistic people who worship a Pharoah, whom the Khopesh believe to be the reincarnation of their god Osiris. They are tall, skinny people with Grey to Purple skin. Their legs are animal-like and they have no hair on their bodies. They also have no mouths and communicate entirely through Psychic messages. Every Khopesh has psychic abilities and much of their tech relies on that fact. Their tech is very advanced and is difficult to use and decipher for anyone without Psychic potential. Most Khopesh are deeply fanatical and obnoxiously prideful.
Brox - Large Croc-Like Lizards. Lay eggs. Warrior-like society. Ruled by a grand chieftain. The Brox are the fiercest military power in the galaxy. They are large crocadilian people who's civilization is young, but is growing fast. Prior to joining the triumvirate the Brox once threatened the entire galaxy. Their military might had grown and they sought to conquer everything in their path. It wasnt until the Polis and the Khopesh teamed up and merged their tech to stop the onslaught the Brox had unleashed. The resulting war was costly to all sides with the Khopesh losing 70% of its population. In the end the triumvirate was born and the Brox became the military arm of that faction. The Brox come from a warrior society. One which only the strong survive. Their soldiers (which are numerous as all male Brox must serve in their military) are thrown into the swamps of their home world with nothing but the scales on their back. They must find their way back and survive. Their home planet of Cronin is considered one of the most hostile in all of Andromeda and is famed for its massive dangerous creatures. Brox are tall lizard-like people whos scales range from green to brown to red. They are naturally bulky and most stand hunched over. They have an advanced physiology which allows them to survive much more punishment than any known race. Cronin's air is toxic to most other races.
Other races:
Humans - Actually a minority in Andromeda. They hail mostly from Gecan (Earth is in the Milky-Way Galaxy. Which is unreachable for the humans of Andromeda) which is the planet the first humans landed on 300 years ago when an exploration vessel crashed upon its surface. The vessel was indeed from the Milky-way, but was far too damaged to make a return trip. Being so far away from their home galaxy the Humans of Gecan had no way to contact Earth and thus were forced to survive on this planet. Fortunately the Ark (the exploration vessel) chose a habitable planet for humanity. The humans settled Gecan quickly and began to settle a handful of other worlds. As a race they are small, but united and they seek to become a major power in the universe.
Cathar/Gata - Catfolk. From a jungle planet that is mostly feral. The vast majority of Cathar (a name the Polis gave them. Gata is what they call themselves.) still live in primitive tribes and are not advanced in tech. There are rare exceptions, particularly in the one Polis owned city on their planet. The Polis seek to educate the Cathar, but meet heavy resistance as their civilization is mired in tribal tradition.

Arm Slaves
Since I plan to play The Blue Death I'll elaborate on Arm Slaves. An Arm Slave or 'AS' is large bipedal suit used in various combat situations. The original purpose of the AS was to provide muscle against the Brox. It was a creation of merging tech. The psychic machines of the Khopesh and the engineering of the Polis. Unfortunately the need for such machines was so great the process through which they were being developed was significantly rushed. The results were psychic pilots with severe mental issues who could barely function after the war.
Piloting an AS is something that only a being with psychic talent can accomplish. To manage such a sophisticated machine and have it operate as though it were a large person requires the pilot to be neurologically linked to the machine itself. With that said AS pilots are put under extreme mental stress, the likes of which would cause permanent damage to non psychics. It takes, per Polis training protocols, about three years of training for a pilot to become acclimated enough to perform in combat. During the Brox war this time was not realistic, so many of the early AS pilots died or suffer from severe, long term mental disabilities.
In the 68 years since then, Arm Slaves have virtually vanished from the battlefield. The Polis still have a small force for special occasion, but they still prefer to rely upon their Hoplite special forces to combat any military threat. There are a few AS fighting rings in the outreach, where pilots are trained in the sole purpose of engaging other AS pilots for sport. The sport itself is very popular and many of the AS pilots achieve celebrity status. Outside of these AS pits, Arm Slaves are incredibly rare and not used in conventional combat.
The average AS stands anywhere from 15-20ft tall depending upon its specs. They are usually bi-pedal, but can have any manner of leg specs. Some are even space bound and have no legs at all. They can carry a wide variety of munitions and their combat techniques literally have no limit on what their specialty might be.

The Outreach
Much of the known galaxy is controlled (either through force or diplomacy) by the Triumvirate, but towards the outer reaches of Andromeda lies several systems that remain free of the Triumvirate. These systems are called the Outreach and can be best compared to the outer rim in star wars. It is filled with several different factions and races that choose to pursue their own agendas. Crime rings, Autocracies, Trade Unions, Independent Nations and all manner of things exist within the Outreach. Its also a perfect place to avoid the crushing influence of the Triumvirate.

Race: Shun
Shun are another race of Andromeda. They originate from the Nereid system and have steadily found their way throughout the galaxy. They stand anywhere from 3-4' tall and have goblinoid features. Their skin tones are similar to that of human flesh tones. They have red insect-like eyes and although they do grow hair, never have a full head of it like humans or Polis. Also they have abnormally (at least in regards to Human and Polis) long tongues, capable of being up to 2' long.
Their society was once mired in tribal traditions, but this archaic way of doing things has long faded and now the Nereid System is largely dominated by trade unions. Shun are short lived and thus there is a sense of urgency in everything they do. Only living about 40 years, Shun are well known for their impatience and swift dealings. Most Shun outside the Nereid System are junkers and traders, and Shun that live within Triumvirate Space often have businesses or engage in local Politics.

Polis Houses
So far I only have names for the Seven Houses, but I plan to give each house a specific Identity. Keep in mind that even though Many Polis have last names that are not the same as their House, they will share their identity with the house from which their family branches. For example Troa's family name is Kritikos, but her family branches from the Kostas House. She will sometimes call herself a Kostas in place of Polis. Many Houses have distinct phenotypes such as a particular hair style or a skin tone that only exists within that House.
Houses:
Kostas
Baros
Drakos
Ronda
Sita
Lasko
Litas
