Appearance: Barrel chested and of a purely muscular build. When he's not in his armor (think Viking scale mail with plate shoulers lined with fur and black leather pants) he's typically found wearing a sleeveless shirt and the pants he fights in. (As far as facial features think Skarin from the game Viking)

Abilities/Skills: Hrothgar is a firm believer in trial by combat. His faith is something he holds true to his heart in that he will not be granted passage to Asgaard unless he dies a glorious death in battle. Because of this his fighting style is viewed as reckless to most, charging headlong into the fray. He's renown for charging with nothing but a shield (essentially a large steel, spiked round shield) if the need should arise.

Equipment: A steel shield, rounded with the edges sharpened for use as a slashing weapon and spikes on the front for puncturing armor (or thick hide as the case may be). He also carries a heavy war axe, the blade weighted and somewhat blunted for a more crushing effect. He also carries a pack with the essential survival gear (trail rations, flint and steel, a mess kit, rope and an armorer's hammer)

Personality: Hearty and boisterous, always easy to spot out of a crowd. He's a man who loves his drink and loves a brawl just as much. He's seen alot that would break a weaker man, but he endures the best he knows how.

Backstory: Hrothgar was born on a smaller Island in the northern end of the Middle Sea. The island is inhabited by three clans of humans who lived much like the Vikings. His father was a blacksmith who taught him the trade in hopes that Hrothgar would follow the family trade. Hrothgar was a lively sort though, always brawling woth the other boys of the village. A warrior took a liking to the young man and taught him to fight, though the warrior taught him a style of defensive nature. The warrior would tell him stories of monster hunters, grand tales of men and women taking on beasts more than triple their size and coming out victorious, inspiring the young Hrothgar and driving him to make a life changing decision. Over the years Hrothgar adapted this style to include more offense to accompany the defensive techniques he learned. On the day he became a man he forged his axe and shield with the intention of using these tools against his quarry before setting off to join the Monster hunters he had heard so much about in his youth.

His first hunt gave him a reputation worthy of praise. He stood defiant against the very beast who had just slaughtered his traveling companions. The beast attacked and clamped mighty jaws down on the thick armor Hrothgar was wearing. The armor held fast, though the sheer force of the beasts jaws caused its fangs to penetrate and dig into his body. While caught in the jaws of death, Hrothgar managed to free his axe and bury it in the jugular of his would be killer, giving him the title of Ironborn and the reputation as the man who was bitten and lived.

(Far fetched, but I picture the monster being smaller, more like one who hasn't reached adolescence yet. Plus...he's the tank.)
